CHARLOTTE REDIT
I worked as an intern for BAF during my final year at university and stayed on with them for the summer. I got lots of support from the team, while also being given a large amount of responsibility. The experience and skills that I gained from BAF went a long way to helping me secure a job almost straight after graduating. (Project Management Intern)

During my internship I carried out a variety of tasks including creating budgets for numerous fundraising applications, including the Big Lottery which involved using Full Cost Recovery. I regularly corresponded with trustees, accountants, potential funders and various other stakeholders which greatly improved my communication skill

I find working at Befriend A Family rewarding. To be given an opportunity to work so soon after just leaving college is amazing. I love the staff, the work and the area. The Director is always open to new ideas and I find that highly refreshing. The environment is mellow and warm. Everyone’s really nice and the charity doesn’t just help families, within the office walls, everyone here is like one big family and I won’t forget about my time here.

I volunteered for BAF during my break from university, covering one of the project manager roles. This gave me a fantastic management experience. I was carrying out assessments and reviews which enabled me to meet the families and hear their stories. The team you work with are so supportive. I really believe in what BAF are aiming to do they are a fantastic organisation.

I have been working as a volunteer for WBAF for over a year.  My position has allowed me to participate in a wide variety of activities. I have enjoyed volunteering at WBAF and have found it to be worthwhile and very fulfilling. I have gained enormously, having developed new skills, learned new things, and grown in confidence.

Westminster Befriend A Family is a unique place to intern, not least because of the amazing work they engage in and the fantastic array of people one meets but also because of the immense trust extended to all interns. True to the vocational nature of social work, WBAF enables interns to adopt a vocational role, letting them take full responsibility of their work and wielding a lot of power on the direction of their individual projects. My Social Research study has involved co management of a project on a scale unlike any other conducted by WBAF, making contact with potentially over 150 service users or related third parties. This creates the perfect environment to develop undergraduate skills while working in enthusiastic teams and contributing to important and rewarding work.
